<li><span itemprop="ingredients">1/2 tsp chili powder</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">1/4 tsp salt</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">1/4 tsp black pepper</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">1/4 tsp garlic powder</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">4 whole wheat burger buns</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">Lettuce leaves</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">Sliced tomatoes</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">Sliced red onion</span></li>
<li><span itemprop="ingredients">Ketchup and mustard for topping</span></li>

<h3>Instructions:</h3>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but with some texture remaining</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, red bell pepper, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to the mashed beans</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Mix until well combined</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">If desired, fold in the shredded cheddar cheese into the mixture</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Place the black bean burger patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are heated through and have grill marks</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Toast the whole wheat burger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until they are lightly browned</span></p>
<p><span itemprop="recipeInstructions">Assemble your veggie burgers by placing a black bean patty on the bottom half of each bun</span></p>
